Terms of Business

In order to ensure a smooth and efficient service, which our business takes great pride in delivering, it is important that all customers of Brian Robson Coachworks (BRC) have read and understood our terms of business, associated with the safe and professional repair of all vehicles at our workshops in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City.

If there are any points below that are unclear, please note that it is the CUSTOMER’S responsibility to inform us immediately by phone or email, in order that we can clarify any points.

Should customers require a written estimate, please be advised that there is a charge of £45.

Verbal estimates are given free of charge, however if you wish to go ahead with repairs then a £45 deposit will apply, plus any relevant parts costs, in order to secure the booking.

£45 is then refundable on completion of the job (or deducted from the final bill).

Customers are advised that all vehicles brought to our workshops must be clean and dry in order that damage can be assessed accurately. BRC will not be held liable for any further damage found once it has been cleaned after repairs have been completed.

Please note that we give estimated completion dates for your vehicle’s repair, which are not guaranteed, as some parts may take longer to source.

Once a customer’s vehicle has been repaired and BRC has notified them of its completion, all outstanding amounts must be paid and the vehicle collected from our premises within 24 HOURS of the time/date of notification.

This is due to limited parking capacity at our premises. If, for any reason, a customer is not able to do this or unable to make arrangement for their vehicle’s collection, BRC reserves the right to move the vehicle to a secure storage facility. Customers are charged a parking fee of £50 per day (plus VAT). If, having failed to communicate with BRC, a vehicle still remains uncollected after 21 days, our business reserves the right to sell it.

Our preferred method of payment is via BACS

Account Name:       Brian Robson Coachworks

Account Number:   24545651

Sort Code:               60-18-11

Alternatively, we can send a direct payment link or we will accept onsite payment in person via debit or credit card (we do not accept American Express).

BRC does not accept cheques. Cash payment is only acceptable if a customer collects their vehicle in person from our premises.

Please note that payment of Insurance Excess and VAT (if VAT registered), is the responsibility of the CUSTOMER.

The amount charged for Insurance Excess is the sum quoted by a customer’s insurance company. If this is believed to be incorrect, then it is the policy holder’s responsibility to check this with the insurance company and obtain written confirmation.

Payment of Insurance Excess and VAT (where applicable) must be made BEFORE a vehicle can be released by BRC.

If your insurance company is providing you with a courtesy car, then your insurance policy will cover this and there is nothing further you need to do.

If you require a courtesy car from BRC, we are required by law to see your driving licence in advance.

Customers are required to visit the Government website https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

This will allow you to generate a code which must be supplied to BRC together with your postcode and driving licence number BEFORE your booking-in date. This will enable us time to validate your details and check eligibility for insurance cover on our courtesy car policy.

Customers requiring a loan vehicle under BRC’s insurance must meet the following criteria;

  • Aged between 21 and 69
  • Have no more than 6 points on your license
  • Have no more than 2 ‘at fault’ claims in two years
  • Have no drink driving or driving without insurance convictions within the last 11 years

If you do not meet this criteria then you will have to insure a courtesy vehicle under your own policy. Please call us immediately for us to discuss this with you.

Courtesy cars must be returned to us within 24 hours of having been notified that their repaired vehicle is ready for collection.

If the return of a courtesy car is delayed due to non payment of any outstanding monies or due to a delay in authorisation of repairs by either a customer’s insurance company, or any other party, BRC reserves the right to charge a customer for any additional days that a courtesy car is required, at a minimum rate of £45.00 per day.

Should a customer incur a fine whilst in possession of a courtesy car, for any reason such as speeding or parking, they will be charged a fee of £25 plus VAT, even if the fine is subsequently cancelled.

Courtesy cars must be returned in the same condition as they were when collected/delivered and with the same fuel level. If a vehicle is returned with a reduced amount of fuel, the customer will be charged at £20.00 per ¼.

Smoking and the carriage of pets are prohibited in our courtesy vehicles.  There will be a minimum charge of £85.00 if a vehicle needs to be valeted before being supplied to another customer.

It is the responsibility of all customers of BRC to familiarise themselves with our terms of business.
